Why the Leohtsawend Guild?

Leohtsawend is an Anglo-Saxon (or Old-English) word meaning light sower. It’s pronounced Lee-ot-sa-wend (or at least that’s my best guess). This is what we are when we create art, music, stories, and beauty to sow seeds of light into a dark world.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary a Guild is: “an association of people with similar interests or pursuits especially : a medieval association of merchants or craftsmen”. They were usually created so tradesmen could support each other and create certain benefits. Kind of like an old sort of union, but way better (at least when structured properly and not used for greed). You can read more about guilds here: https://www.worldhistory.org/Medieval_Guilds/

The logo design is based illuminations from the Lindisfarne Gospels, the oldest copy of the gospels in the English language.

How does the Guild work exactly?

First, members join by either being invited by current members, or by applying and being accepted.

Most of the interaction of the community takes place on a private online forum. Hopefully there will also be opportunities for in person activities as well. There are places in this forum to share projects, discuss each different Art, pray for one another, discuss favourite books, music, and shows, and much more.

How to Join

There are three steps to become a member of the Guild if you’ve been invited by a current member.

Read this page and the Membership Requirements below as well as Ephesians 5:1-21 as the forum guidelines are especially based on this section of scripture.
Go here to fill out the registration form and gain access to the Guild Forum. Registration Form (Make sure you have name of the member that invited you as it appears on the forum, and the password).
Pay the membership fee for the year. It’s $20 CAD or about $15 USD. This money goes towards all of the costs to run the forum and website. See instructions below for how to do this.

Your application will be manually approved by an admin, but you should receive an activation notice within a few days. If you haven’t seen anything and it’s been more then 3 or so days make sure to check your spam folder.
